AlUla - The New Epicenter of Traditional Sports

In the heart of Saudi Arabia, a new chapter in the world of traditional sports is being written. The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate has announced its plans to host the inaugural Arab Camel Cup and the World Camel Endurance Championship, marking a significant milestone in their broader initiative to establish AlUla as the premier destination for traditional sports in the region.

The Arab Camel Cup, scheduled for May 3 at the Mughira Heritage Sports Village, promises to be a spectacle of grandeur and competition. Elite camels from 15 countries will compete in 13 rounds, vying for prizes exceeding SAR3 million. This event is not just a race; it’s a celebration of heritage, a testament to the enduring allure of one of the region’s most iconic creatures - the camel.

Following the Arab Camel Cup, the World Camel Endurance Championship will commence on May 4. This global event will feature camels and jockeys from various corners of the globe, each competing for a share of the SAR2 million prize pool. The race, consisting of two stages spanning a distance of 16 kilometers, will see both men and women participate in two categories, utilizing the traditional riding techniques of Hail, Thanaya Bakkar, Zamoul, and Thanaya Qadan.

The first-place winners in the two categories will each be awarded a prize of SAR500,000, a testament to the high stakes and the prestige of these championships. The remaining prizes will be distributed among the winners of the other categories, ensuring a fair and exciting competition.

These events are more than just races; they are a fusion of tradition and modernity, a celebration of cultural heritage, and a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional sports. They represent a bold step forward in AlUla’s journey to become the region’s premier destination for traditional sports, offering a unique blend of culture, competition, and camaraderie.
