Angelina Jolie To Open Atelier Jolie In Historic Basquiat Studio

Angelina Jolie has signed a lease on the former studio of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in New York City. Jolie plans to open Atelier Jolie, a new venture that will support a network of underrepresented tailors and artisans.

The studio is located at 57 Great Jones Street in the Noho neighborhood of Manhattan. Basquiat lived and worked in the studio from 1983 until his death in 1988. The studio is now covered in graffiti tributes to Basquiat, who was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Jolie said she was drawn to the studio because of its history and its potential to support underrepresented artists. "I was immediately drawn to the space", Jolie said in a statement. "It has such powerful energy and I can't wait to see what the Atelier Jolie community will create there".

Atelier Jolie will provide tailors and artisans with access to workspace, tools, and training. The venture will also offer mentorship and networking opportunities. Jolie said she hopes Atelier Jolie will help to create a more equitable and inclusive fashion industry.

"I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their creative dreams, regardless of their background", Jolie said. "Atelier Jolie is a place where people can come together to learn, grow, and create".

Atelier Jolie is expected to open in the fall of 2023.
